Get Unstuck Fast: The Original MAXTRAX MKII Recovery Boards
Spinning wheels, sinking fast, and no one around to help. It’s the moment every 4WD enthusiast dreads. Don’t let a patch of soft sand, deep mud, or unexpected snow end your adventure. This is where the MAXTRAX MKII recovery boards becomes the most valuable piece of gear you own.
The MAXTRAX MKII is the original, award-winning 4WD recovery track. It’s not just a “sand board” or “traction mat”; it’s a lightweight, tough, and incredibly effective vehicle recovery device. Designed in Australia and proven in the toughest conditions on Earth, it’s the go-to tool for getting yourself unstuck safely and with minimal effort.
Your 4×4’s Ultimate “Get Out of Jail Free” Card
Whether you’re exploring deep in the backcountry or just on a tricky trail, the MAXTRAX MKII provides instant traction when you need it most.
- King of the Sand Dunes: As sand boards, they are unmatched. When your tyres dig deep into soft sand, just wedge the MAXTRAX under the wheels. The 88 aggressive teeth lock onto your tyre tread, and the board provides a firm, wide base to lift your vehicle up and out.
- Conquer Mud Bogs: In deep, slick mud, these recovery tracks are a lifesaver. The broad, long body acts like a bridge over the slop, stopping you from sinking further. The cleats give your tyres the aggressive bite they need to find traction and clear the bog.
- Master the Snow: Don’t let winter stop you. On an icy trail, a deep snowstrip, or just a slick, unplowed road, the MAXTRAX MKII provides the critical grip your tyres can’t find.
Built for the Toughest Off-Road Conditions
What makes the MAXTRAX MKII the leading offroad recovery boards? It’s the innovative design and heavy-duty materials.
- Super-Tough Construction: Made from a proprietary, UV-stabilized, engineering-grade reinforced nylon. This means they are both incredibly durable and flexible, built to withstand the weight of a heavy 4×4. They won’t shatter in the cold or warp in the heat.
- Patented Aggressive Grip: The top features a patented, aggressive tooth pattern that locks into your tyre’s tread for maximum grip. The underside provides a massive footprint to find traction on any unstable surface.
- Built-in Shovel: The handles at each end are ergonomically designed to be used as a shovel, allowing you to quickly clear debris, sand, or snow from around your tyres before recovery.
- Easy to Store & Handle: Despite their toughness, the MAXTRAX MKIIs are lightweight and easy for any driver to handle. They stack together tightly for low-profile storage on your roof rack or in your rig.

Awesome recovery board, but pricy.
Great boards, will not break after one use like a lot of the alternative cheaper boards. If you need them and are alone off roading, these are my choice. You get what you pay for.

Very Heavy Duty – Great Product
I purchased these, recommended by 4X4 enthusiasts. I gold prospect in some pretty rough terrain, getting stuck in the desert by myself, I resorted to what was at hand to get unstuck! After that experience, I knew I needed more help than just tumble weeds, to become unstuck! These traction boards are more than I expected. The rigid boards are made with many bumps and protrusions, that help tires get a grip on the boards. The quality was amazing, even though these are one step down from the top of the line. Thankfully, I haven’t had to.use them yet, to get out of “sticky” situations. I did use one like a “shovel,” to see how well the advertised use would be. Yes, at least with.sand and soft dirt, you can move a lot of dirt. Straps are provided, you attached to the boards, for easy retrieval after use. The boards may get covered with dirt and hard to find otherwise, the straps are bright international orange (easy to see).

High Quality Boards
I was tempted to save some money by getting one of the cheaper options that are essentially copies of Maxtrax boards but in the end decided that when it came to recovery gear, I wanted to make sure I had gear that I knew I could count on when I really needed it.As soon as I received these, I knew that spending the extra money to get the real deal instead of a knockoff was worth it. There is nothing cheap or plastic feeling about these boards. I have no concerns about them under the weight of my truck and holding up when I need them. I thankfully have not needed them yet but feel very confident in their ability when I do.

Must buy! It saved me
I bought these 7/8 years ago. I finally used them for the first time. Jeep got stuck in the snow and I a wheel completely off the ground. Jeep wouldn’t budge… I tried rock stacking. Nothing. Busted the max traxx out. Crawled out like nothing.

They work and hold up
Used them to get my neighbors car up their icy driveway into their garage and to get my truck out of mud twice. No damage to the boards yet.

Could not Beleive How Soon Needed and How Well Worked on Rear Wheel Drive 15 Passanger Van
I drive a rear-wheel drive 15 passenger van for a hot air balloon crew chase vehicle pulling a small trailer. On rare occasions the van gets stuck mostly on gravel or unmaintained roads after it rains. I purchased two sets of the Maxtraxs just days ago. Last night the van got stuck in deep powdery sand in a field. This was not the a wet muddy gravel road slipping tire situation I intended for the Maxtraxs. This was deep to the hub, off road real world stuck in the sand just like in the videos situation. Two sets of Maxtraxs, a decent shovel, 15 minutes and three attempts the van was unstuck and we were on our way again.I never expected to really need the Maztraxs. There is usually another vehicle around to pull the van far enough along a road to get traction again. I purchased as a backup just in case there was no other vehicle around. In this situation, short of a tractor the van wasn’t going to be easily pulled out by another chase tuck or van. I see why these are so highly recommended recommended. These are very sturdy and yet flexible enough to handle the weight of the van in uneven ground. The cost stings. Is Maxtrax worth it? I knew nothing of recovery and extraction tracts a week ago so I could not say what is great, good enough or not good when I purchased the Maxtraxs. I could only judge based on reviews and videos that the Maxtraxs are the choice if money was not consideration and serious use was intended. I could not afford to try something just to have the product break and fail while customers were looking over the shoulder. Not in my business. I paid the extra cost because I figured either these will work or not. At no time did it appear as if using these tracts working was going to be a wing and a prayer.

UPDATE to Maxtrax sent USED recovery boards
Update: I received the new boards today and Maxtrax has made right from the mistake. The boards are new, in the right color, and the leashes were included. I’m happy to update my rating and am looking forward to having these in my recovery kit for when I need them. Kudos to Maxtrax for making this right.(Original review; issues rectified)Not a commentary on the Maxtrax Recovery Boards, rather Maxtrax itself. I received mine and it was clear from just tilting the package that something was off. When I opened it, I found red recovery boards (I had ordered orange ones) but worse – they were heavily used and still covered with rocks, sticks, and dirt! Also – there were no straps. I have sent them back and ordered another set – hopefully this was just an error in their shipping department.

Only Time Will Tell
First pair of Maxtrax, so we will see if they live up to the hype, the ones I had before these were some inexpensive amazon brand traction boards and they served me well the few times I had to use them and was able to get myself unstuck, a buddy out and a big rig (35 footer) out from a small dirt ditch that is was stuck in. Hence the reason I got a new pair after the big rig incident the old traction board were pretty toast, so decided on these but haven’t had the need to use them…yet…so again we will see if they live up to the hype, if the old no name brand boards performed pretty good I would have to believe these outlast and out perform those one easily.

Great item. Beware seller.
The item is excellent but the seller, Midwest Ventures, was hands down the worst seller I’ve ever experienced on Amazon. Do not attempt any returns to these people, they’ll argue until you give up, or make you pay return shipping. Great item. Shame on the seller and Amazon.
