1. Who We Are & What These Terms Cover

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Overland Gear Guide website (overland-gear-guide.com) and any related content, tools, downloads, and services we provide (together, the “Services”).

References to “Overland Gear Guide”, “we”, “us”, or “our” mean the owners and operators of this site. References to “you” or “user” mean anyone who accesses, browses, or uses our Services in any way.

By accessing or using our Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by any policies we link from this page (including our Privacy Policy and Affiliate Disclosure). If you do not agree, you must not use the site.

Short version: This is an informational and educational site about overlanding. You are 100% responsible for how you use the information, tools, and recommendations out in the real world.

2. Eligibility & Your Responsibilities

You may use our Services only if you:

  • Are at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction), and
  • Have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement.

By using the site, you also agree that you will:

  • Use the Services only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms.
  • Not attempt to interfere with or disrupt the security or proper functioning of the site, tools, or any related systems.
  • Not copy, scrape, or bulk-download content in a way that violates our intellectual property rights or harms the site.
  • Respect all applicable laws, regulations, and local requirements wherever you travel.

3. Changes to These Terms & to the Services

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in the law, our Services, or how we operate. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above and may post a notice on the site.

Your continued use of the Services after any changes become effective means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree with the updated Terms, you must stop using the Services.

We may also modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Services at any time, including tools (such as calculators or planners), downloadable resources, or specific articles and product links, without liability to you.

4. Informational Use Only – No Professional Advice

Overland Gear Guide provides general information, route overviews, gear reviews, calculators, and guides related to overlanding, off-road travel, and vehicle preparation. All content is for informational and educational purposes only.

Nothing on this site constitutes, or is intended to constitute:

  • Professional mechanical or engineering advice
  • Professional driving instruction or safety certification
  • Financial, legal, immigration, or tax advice
  • Medical or health advice

You are solely responsible for verifying any information that could affect safety, legality, or significant financial decisions. This includes, but is not limited to, border regulations, vehicle import rules, carnet requirements, park fees, road conditions, weather, and local laws.

Risk warning: Overlanding, remote travel, and 4×4 activities are inherently risky. Serious injury, death, vehicle damage, and financial loss are possible. Always operate within your skill level, consult qualified professionals where appropriate, and never treat an article, checklist, or calculator as a substitute for training, experience, and real-world judgement.

5. Route Information, Tools & Calculators

Our route guides, waypoints, and tools (including the Overland Expedition Planner, 4WD Tyre Pressure Calculator, and any other calculators or interactive tools) are based on research, experience, and best-effort estimates. However, they are not real-time systems and may be incomplete, out of date, or inaccurate in your specific situation.

In particular:

  • Route guides & maps: Road conditions, closures, permits, and security situations can change daily. Always cross-check against official sources (NPS, TANAPA, local authorities, embassies, etc.) and up-to-date maps before departure.
  • Tyre-pressure and load/recovery tools: Calculator outputs and recommendations are indicative only. You must consider your specific vehicle, tyres, load, environment, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Expedition Planner: Fuel, cost, and timing estimates are provided for planning convenience. They are not guarantees and should be supplemented with your own research and on-the-ground confirmations.

You accept full responsibility for any decisions you make based on these tools and guides.

6. Affiliate Links, Sponsored Content & Third-Party Services

Overland Gear Guide participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and may participate in other affiliate programs. This means some links on the site are “affiliate links”, and we may earn a small commission if you purchase through them. This does not change the price you pay.

We may also:

  • Feature sponsored content, product placements, or ads.
  • Link out to third-party websites, apps, tools, or services.

We do not control, endorse, or guarantee any third-party content, products, or services. Your interactions with third parties (including purchases, bookings, and data sharing) are solely between you and them.

You should review the terms, conditions, and privacy policies of any third-party site or service before using it.

7. User Content (Comments, Messages & Submissions)

From time to time, we may allow you to submit comments, feedback, photos, stories, or other content (“User Content”). By submitting User Content, you:

  • Represent that you own or have the necessary rights to share that content, and that it does not infringe any third-party rights (including copyright, trademark, privacy, or publicity rights).
  • Grant Overland Gear Guide a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, adapt, publish, and display that content in connection with the Services (for example, featuring a trip story in a blog post).

We reserve the right (but are not obligated) to remove or edit User Content that we consider, in our sole discretion, to be unlawful, abusive, spammy, or otherwise inappropriate for the community.

8. Intellectual Property

Unless stated otherwise, all content on Overland Gear Guide is owned by us or used under licence. This includes:

  • Articles, guides, checklists, and route write-ups
  • Logos, branding, and visual design
  • Custom graphics, photos, and illustrations
  • Tool interfaces, calculators, and their underlying text

You may:

  • View the site and content for your personal, non-commercial use.
  • Print or save reasonable excerpts for trip planning and reference.

You may not, without our prior written consent:

  • Republish full articles, guides, or tools elsewhere on the web or in print.
  • Scrape, copy, or repackage large portions of the site.
  • Sell, licence, or commercially exploit our content as your own.

9. Acceptable Use & Prohibited Activities

You agree not to:

  • Use the Services in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations.
  • Introduce malware, attempt to hack, or otherwise interfere with the security of the site.
  • Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) to access, copy, or overload the site.
  • Use the Services to harass, abuse, or harm others, or to share illegal or defamatory content.

10. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability

10.1 No Warranties

The Services are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that:

  • The site or tools will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
  • Any content or recommendations will be accurate, complete, or up-to-date in your specific situation.
  • Defects or issues will be corrected within any particular timeframe.

10.2 Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Overland Gear Guide and its owners, contributors, and partners will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising out of or in any way connected with your use of (or inability to use) the Services.

This includes, without limitation:

  • Personal injury or death
  • Vehicle damage, recovery costs, or repair bills
  • Trip cancellations, delays, or missed bookings
  • Border denials, fines, or visa issues
  • Loss of data, revenue, or opportunity

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations of liability, so parts of this section may not apply to you. In any case, our total liability for any claim related to the Services will not exceed the amount (if any) you paid directly to us for the specific product or service giving rise to the claim.

11. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Overland Gear Guide and its owners, contributors, and partners from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with:

  • Your use of the Services;
  • Your violation of these Terms; or
  • Your violation of any rights of another person or entity.

12. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These Terms and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them (including non-contractual disputes) are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.

You agree that the courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction over any such dispute or claim, subject to any mandatory consumer protection laws that apply in your country of residence.

13. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Services at any time, without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms or used the site in a way that may cause harm to us, other users, or third parties.

Upon termination, all rights granted to you under these Terms will immediately cease, but sections that by their nature should survive (including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law) will continue to apply.

14. Contact & Feedback
